Gears of War E-Day Beta Starts August 6 — Here's How to Get In

The Gears of War: E-Day multiplayer beta is happening this summer, and there are a few different ways in depending on how you're planning to buy the game. Here's the breakdown.

When Does It Start

The open beta kicks off August 6. It's split across two weekends, so if you miss the first one you're not completely out of luck. That said, Early Access during the first weekend is gated behind pre-orders or Game Pass, so if you want in from day one, you've got some decisions to make.

How to Get In

Three paths:

Digital pre-order. Buy the digital version and you're automatically in for Early Access starting August 6. No codes, no hassle.

Physical pre-order. Buy physical from a participating retailer and they'll hand you a beta code for Early Access. The "participating retailer" language is doing some work there. Check before you assume your local shop qualifies.

Game Pass. Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass subscribers get access during the August 6 weekend. This is probably the best deal if you're already subscribed and on the fence about buying.

What Pre-Ordering Gets You

Aside from beta access, pre-ordering gets you a character skin and a weapon skin. Standard Edition is $69.99. If skins move the needle for you, that's the call. If they don't, Game Pass access during the beta weekend lets you try it before committing.

Platform Situation

Xbox console exclusive. It's on Xbox and PC. Not coming to PS5. That's just the reality if you're on PlayStation.

Full Release

Game ships in October 2026. The beta is basically a two-weekend trial run before that. Worth jumping in if you're a Gears fan or curious about the multiplayer before dropping $70.
