Marvel's Wolverine Has Four Confirmed Villains and a Jean Grey Mystery
Insomniac just dropped a new trailer for Marvel's Wolverine called "Ain't No Hero," and it confirms Lady Deathstrike as a villain alongside Sabretooth. Add in Omega Red and Mystique from the June State of Play, and that's four named antagonists locked in before the September 15 launch.
That's a stacked roster. Worth paying attention to.
The Villain Problem Most Superhero Games Have
Most of these games front-load one or two big names and call it done. Four confirmed villains, each with their own history with Logan, is a different approach. Sabretooth is basically his evil twin. Lady Deathstrike has adamantium skeleton and claws, same deal. Omega Red is old-school Soviet nightmare fuel. Mystique operates in a completely different register, manipulation over raw power.
That's actually a coherent theme. Everyone on this list has a reason to want Wolverine dead that feels personal. Not random boss selection.
The Jean Grey Photograph
She appears in the "Ain't No Hero" trailer. In a photograph. Not as a playable character, not in a cutscene. Just a photo.
Could be nothing. Could be set dressing to establish Logan's world. One possibility is she's central to the whole story and Insomniac is holding her back deliberately, which would explain why she gets a photograph cameo instead of actual screen time two months before launch. Hard to say from a single trailer. But they chose to put it there, which means they chose to put it there.
Theater Trailers for Video Games
"Ain't No Hero" is running before select U.S. screenings of The Odyssey starting July 16. That's a real push. Theater advertising for a game trailer is not cheap and not common. Insomniac and Sony clearly think this one can pull an audience that isn't already deep in gaming news.
Whether that confidence is earned, we'll find out September 15.
One Other Thing
The game ships with a physical disc in the box. Confirmed. Mentioning it because it's not a given anymore and people ask.
Marvel's Wolverine, PS5, September 15, 2026. Four villains confirmed. Jean Grey in a photograph. Insomniac making it.
I'm watching this one.
