Concrete stairs are in Minecraft now. Nine years after concrete blocks were added. Nine.
That's the whole story, honestly. Snapshot 26w31s7 dropped today for Java Edition, and buried in the patch notes is the thing people have been asking for since 2017: stairs and slabs made out of concrete.
What's Actually in the Snapshot
Simple. Concrete stairs, concrete slabs. You craft them at a regular crafting table. Same workflow as wood stairs or stone slabs, just with concrete. Every color variant works.
That's it. That's the feature. It's not complicated. Which is sort of the point.
Why This Took Nine Years Is the Actual Interesting Part
Concrete landed in 2017. Immediately became one of the most-used building blocks in the game because of the color options and how clean it looks. And immediately, people started asking: where are the stairs? Where are the slabs?
Almost a decade of workarounds. Almost a decade of Reddit threads. Almost a decade of "surely this update" and then nothing.
The Reddit post about this snapshot cleared 5,000 upvotes. Minecraft's TikTok got over 500,000 views within a few hours. For a snapshot. About stairs.
That number tells you everything about how long people have been sitting on this request.
What It Actually Changes for Builders
If you build anything serious in this game, you already know what this means. Concrete is everywhere in modern builds. Clean colors, flat surfaces, no texture noise. But you've always had to fake stepped and curved sections with other blocks because concrete never had stair or slab variants. Now it does.
This is one of those additions that sounds minor and immediately becomes something you use in every single build going forward.
It's a Snapshot, So Console Players Are Still Waiting
Not live everywhere yet. Snapshots are Java-only test builds. Mojang runs features through them to catch bugs before rolling out to the other versions. Console, phone, tablet players are going to have to wait.
But this is clearly shipping. The snapshot is the last step before it goes wide.
Nine years. Concrete stairs. Worth it, but also what the hell took so long.
