Minecraft Live May 2026: Everything Announced at TwitchCon
Minecraft Live happened at TwitchCon on May 30, 2026, and Mojang packed a lot into it. A movie sequel, the next base game drop, Dungeons 2 content, and some genuinely weird stuff. Here's what was announced and whether any of it actually matters.
Chaos Cubed Drops June 16
This is the one you actually care about if you play the base game. The next Minecraft drop is called Chaos Cubed, it's focused on Sulfur, and it includes physics changes. That's the whole pitch.
June 16 is the release date. That's soon. Physics changes in Minecraft are interesting territory because the game has always been pretty static. No details were given on what exactly changes, which means we're all finding out in two and a half weeks. This could mean something significant for building, combat, or redstone, or it could be pretty minor. No way to know until it's live.
Sulfur as a focus material is a good pick. It opens up chemistry, gunpowder-adjacent mechanics, and fire-themed content without being redundant. The existing sulfur adjacent items in the game have always felt underutilized.
A Minecraft Movie is Getting a Sequel, Somehow
Yeah. A Minecraft Movie Squared is the real title. It releases July 23, 2027.
Jack Black is back as Steve. Jason Momoa returns as Garrett. Danielle Brooks returns as Dawn. Matt Berry is also confirmed to return. New addition: Kirsten Dunst plays Alex. That's a notable casting choice. Dunst is a serious actor taking a role in a Minecraft movie sequel subtitled "Squared." Respect the check, I guess.
The first movie pulled massive numbers at the box office, so this was inevitable. Whether it's actually good is a separate question. The casting is stacked enough that it has a shot at being entertaining. The title is aggressively stupid in a way that might be intentional. Could go either way.
Minecraft Dungeons 2 Is Real
Mojang revealed a new mob for Minecraft Dungeons 2 called the Twisted Warden, and showed concept art of the new story. That's about all we got. The Twisted Warden looks like what you'd expect from the name.
Dungeons 2 has been a long time coming. The original game was a solid dungeon crawler but got abandoned before it really hit its potential. If the sequel actually commits to ongoing support, it could be worth paying attention to.
Speedrun Worlds for Bedrock
Tubbo and MCSR Ranked collaborated on two new Speedrun Worlds for Minecraft Bedrock Edition, both available through the Minecraft Marketplace.
There's a free Speedrun Practice World that includes tutorials, time trials, and medals. Then there's a standard Speedrun World for actual runs. Bedrock speedrunning has always been kind of the awkward sibling to Java speedrunning, so having official structured content for it is a meaningful addition. The free practice world in particular is a good on-ramp for people who want to get into speedrunning without immediately getting destroyed.
Chicken Mounts Are a Thing Now
Lego Minecraft Chicken Mounts is an add-on that turns chickens into ridable mounts with customizable abilities and looks. It's a Lego collaboration. It's goofy. You can ride a chicken. Some people are going to love this and I'm not going to pretend otherwise.
Fall 2026 Drop Teased
Mojang teased a fall 2026 drop focused on exploration, adventure, and social interactions. A new rust-toned dappled forest biome was shown. No release date, just vibes and a biome screenshot.
The dappled forest biome looks good from what was shown. The "social interactions" language is vague enough to mean almost anything, from new multiplayer mechanics to NPC dialogue systems to something nobody's guessed yet. Keep an eye on this one as details come out.
Bottom Line
Chaos Cubed on June 16 is the immediate thing. Physics changes in Minecraft are either going to be a small tweak or something that reshapes how the game plays. Worth logging in on launch day to see. Everything else is longer runway stuff, except the chicken mounts, which you can grab now if riding poultry is a priority for you.
