Over 20 Classic Warhammer PC Games Just Hit Steam, Including Some That Never Had a Steam Page

SNEG partnered with Games Workshop to put together the Warhammer Classics label, and the result is a massive drop of old-school Warhammer games on Steam. More than 20 titles. Seven of them brand new to Steam, twelve returning after being delisted or never properly available. If you've ever wanted to go digging through the Warhammer back catalog, now's the time.

The New Arrivals (Actually New to Steam)

The seven Steam debuts are the interesting ones. Shadow of the Horned Rat and Dark Omen are the old Warhammer Fantasy strategy games from an era when Warhammer games weren't a given. Final Liberation is Warhammer Epic 40,000, which is exactly as niche as it sounds. Chaos Gate, Rites of War, Fire Warrior (developed by Chilled Mouse), and Mark of Chaos Gold round it out.

Fire Warrior is the interesting one to me. First-person shooter set in the 40K universe, playing as a Tau warrior. It had its moment back in the day and then basically vanished. Having it on Steam with modern compatibility updates is genuinely useful if you're curious about Warhammer history.

The Returns

The twelve returning games are a mix of stuff people actually remember and stuff that was gone long enough you probably forgot it existed. Space Hulk and Space Hulk: Ascension from Full Control are back. Armageddon and Sanctus Reach from Slitherine. The Talisman games from Nomad Games. Man O' War: Corsair. Both Warhammer Quest games.

Legacy of Dorn: Herald of Oblivion was a choose-your-own-adventure style game that not enough people played. The Chainsaw Warrior games from Auroch Digital are genuinely weird little things based on a board game. Both Blood Bowl games from Cyanide and Nacon are here too.

The Big Names

Dawn of War Anniversary Edition and Dawn of War 2 Anniversary Edition are in the full list. Those are Relic games. If you somehow haven't played Dawn of War and you're into strategy, this is the reason to care about this whole initiative. Battlefleet Gothic: Armada from Tindalos and Space Hulk: Tactics from Cyanide round out what I'd call the "actually popular" tier.

The Point

Warhammer has been in PC gaming since the 1990s. There are genuinely decades of games here, most of which got lost when licenses expired or publishers went under or Steam pages just got delisted. Having 20+ of them in one place with modern hardware compatibility updates is the kind of preservation work that matters for the hobby.

Not all of these are good. Some of them are historical curiosities at best. But the fact that they're accessible now instead of requiring an old physical copy or sketchy download is worth something. If you want to understand where Warhammer games came from before Total War and Space Marine 2, this is your archive.

Check the full list. Something on there probably means something to you.
