Palia's Free May Update Has Horses With a Trait Called 'Bulldozer'
Palia is adding horses in May and one of the traits you can breed for is called "Bulldozer." It makes your horse faster but worse at turning. That's a real trade-off someone designed on purpose and I find that genuinely charming. The full expansion, called The Royal Highlands, drops May 12 as a free update.
What's in the Expansion
The Royal Highlands is the largest adventure zone Palia has had so far. It adds a new villager named Eshelon, ranches for home lots, and the horses. All free. Singularity 6 has been building toward this while the game crossed 10 million total players, so this is the kind of drop that makes sense as a milestone move.
If you're not already playing Palia, this probably isn't the thing that converts you. It's more of what Palia already is, just bigger. If you are already in, May 12 is worth circling.
The Horses Are Actually Interesting
Three breeds: Dawnspur, Phoenixfire Dawnspur, and the Akwinduu Thoroughbred. The Thoroughbred is Arabian-inspired. Each horse has a speed meter that moves through actual gaits, walk to canter to gallop, which is more simulation detail than most MMO mounts bother with.
The breeding system lets you work toward mounts with specific traits. Some are realistic, like chestnut coats. Others go full fantasy, sparkly visual effects, status effect buffs. And then Bulldozer. Faster horse, worse at turning. That's a real mechanical trade-off, not just cosmetic variance, and that's the difference between a breeding system that matters and one that doesn't.
How deep the trait combinations go is unknown until the update is out. But the design intent looks right.
The 10 Million Number
Singularity 6 kicked off an in-game event on April 21 to celebrate hitting 10 million total players. A sunkissed summer event is also coming later in the season. Standard milestone stuff. But 10 million is not a small number for a cozy life sim. Palia found its audience and kept it, which matters more than the milestone event itself.
Bottom Line
Free expansion with the biggest zone yet, ranches, a new villager, and horses with a breeding system that has actual mechanical teeth to it. Worth showing up for on May 12 if Palia is already your thing. The Bulldozer horse is going to be someone's primary mount and that person is going to be insufferable in any area requiring precision. Not speculation. That's just what happens.
