Xbox Is Adding Cloud Save Rollback and It's About Time

A bunch of quality-of-life stuff is rolling out to Xbox Insiders in the Alpha Skip-Ahead ring starting today. Most of it's been on the wishlist for years. Some of it I didn't know I wanted until I heard it existed.

Party Chat in Captures

You can now include party chat audio in gameplay clips. This is the obvious one for anyone who records funny moments with friends. The catch: every person in the party has to manually opt in. Which is actually fine. Not everyone wants their voice in someone else's clips, and making it opt-in by default is the right call.

Achievement Sorting That Doesn't Suck

The achievement list is finally sortable. Options are Last Played, Completion Percentage, Gamerscore Earned, and Number of Achievements Unlocked. Ascending and descending both work.

Low-key the most useful fix here for achievement hunters. Being able to sort by completion percentage means you can actually find the game that's closest to done instead of scrolling through your whole library guessing. Should have been there from day one.

Cloud Save Versioning

This is the one worth paying attention to. Xbox is adding the ability to view and restore previous cloud save versions in supported games. It's launching first with Forza Horizon 6.

The use case is obvious: you made a terrible decision 10 hours ago, or a bug nuked your progress, and currently you're just screwed. Versioning changes that. Cloud saves have existed for years but without rollback they're kind of half a solution.

Why Forza Horizon 6 specifically? No idea. One possibility is it was just technically easier to implement there first given the game's online infrastructure. Hopefully the supported list grows fast.

Wishlist Cap Is Now 1,000 Games

Xbox bumped the wishlist limit to 1,000 titles. If you were somehow hitting the old cap, here's your fix. Most people won't care. Some people will be very relieved.

The Price Context

Worth naming while we're talking Xbox: Microsoft raised Series X and S prices by up to $150 in the U.S. and up to £220 in the U.K. These feature updates have nothing to do with that. They're QoL improvements that should have shipped earlier. The price hike is a separate and worse conversation.

Everything above is currently in the Alpha Skip-Ahead Insider ring. Broader rollout timing hasn't been announced.
