IO Interactive Is Remastering the Original Hitman Trilogy and It's About Time

IO Interactive just announced Hitman Classic Trilogy Remastered, developed in partnership with Saber Interactive, and it's coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S sometime in 2027. The collection covers the three games that started it all: Hitman: Codename 47, Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, and Hitman: Contracts.

What's Actually in the Remaster

The usual remaster checklist is here. New character models, high-resolution textures, enhanced environments, photo mode. The thing that actually caught my eye is the instant graphics toggle, which lets you flip between the new visuals and the originals in real time. That's the one feature I wish every remaster shipped with. If the new look isn't doing it for you, you can just... switch back.

IOI revealed all this as part of an IOI showcase, and a Steam page went live alongside the announcement. 2027 is the window. Vague, but at least it's confirmed.

The Switch Situation Is a Little Weird

No Switch or Switch 2 versions of the Classic Trilogy Remastered are in the launch plans. But IOI is doing something different on Nintendo platforms. Contracts mode is coming to Hitman: Absolution on the original Switch, and a Switch 2 upgrade for Absolution is planned for summer 2026.

So Nintendo players are getting Absolution content while everyone else gets the classic trilogy remaster. That's an odd split. This could mean IOI is treating the platform roadmaps completely separately, or it could be a staggered thing where Switch versions come later. Nothing confirmed either way.

Should You Care

Codename 47 and Silent Assassin are rough by modern standards. Contracts holds up better. All three have moments that are genuinely great, but they're old games with old design decisions baked in. The remaster can update the visuals, not the level design.

If you've never played these and you're into the World of Assassination trilogy, this is probably the cleanest way to see where 47 started. If you played them back in the day, the instant graphics toggle is the thing to watch. Seeing what Saber actually did with those environments will tell you pretty fast whether this is worth picking up again.

2027 is far enough out that there's time to see more before committing to an opinion. Steam page is up if you want to wishlist it now.
