SilentPatch Just Fixed Over 100 Things Rockstar Never Bothered To

SilentPatch dropped a big update for the PC ports of GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas. Over 100 new fixes across all three games. If you're still playing the originals on PC instead of the remaster disaster, this is the patch you install without thinking about it.

100 Voice Lines Rockstar Left on the Floor

The San Andreas stuff is the most interesting part. About 100 voice lines got restored, and some of them reveal how much got cut or broken before ship.

CJ has shooting lines. Had them all along. They just never fired on mouse and keyboard. Controller only. Which means if you played the PC port with mouse and keyboard like a normal person, CJ was doing half his voiced reactions in complete silence for twenty years. That's wild. Not some minor audio tweak. That's a major chunk of character feedback missing from the default control scheme.

The pedestrian dialogue is back too. Weather conversations. Criminals now say something when they're running away. CJ gets unique lines when he takes over specific neighborhoods, which adds real texture to the turf war missions. Cops announce when they have you surrounded or need backup. There's apparently a grunt specifically for being hit with a paint can spray.

And then there's the Ammu-Nation vendor. More than 15 voice lines recorded for hold-up events. All of them unused. Just sitting there. Someone wrote and recorded those lines, they made it into the files, and they never played once in the shipped game. The patch turned them on.

The Bugs Were Genuinely Weird

Some of these bug fixes explain moments I thought were just me being confused.

There's a sky bug where San Andreas turns red at 8 PM specifically when it's raining. Not sunrise. Not a weather effect. Just a broken color state tied to that exact time and weather combination. Fixed now.

Fort Carson had a plane that would spawn in a driveway and immediately explode. Every time. The patch stops the plane from spawning in the driveway. Simple fix for what must have been a baffling thing to witness if you happened to be in the area.

GTA 3's street gangsters would meander around and then just freeze. Stand there doing nothing. Turns out this wasn't a PC port issue. Same bug existed on PS2. The original console version had gangsters that would lock up and stop functioning. SilentPatch fixed something Rockstar never fixed in any official version of the game.

The PC Port Basics That Were Always Broken

Mouselook was broken in the original PC ports. It's fixed now. Lens flares and heat haze didn't scale with resolution so at higher resolutions they looked wrong. Fixed. NPCs couldn't properly use sniper rifles or RPGs. Also fixed.

That last one matters for how the game world behaves. NPCs with sniper rifles and RPGs that actually function correctly changes some encounters.

Install It

If you're running the original PC ports of any of these three games, SilentPatch is just the version you should be playing. This update makes that more true than it already was. Restored voice lines, two decades of bugs, PC-specific problems that never got official fixes. All of it in one patch.

The Ammu-Nation hold-up lines alone are worth it just to hear something that was recorded and then forgotten about for twenty-plus years.
