Total War: Warhammer 3's Final DLC Has Nagash, Thanquol, and One Wild Deal for New Players
The Lords of the End Times DLC drops September 24 on Steam, and the lord lineup alone is enough to get Warhammer fans worked up. But buried in the announcement is something that changes the math for anyone who never bought into the trilogy. More on that in a second.
The Lords
Four new Legendary Lords. Nagash, Supreme Lord of the Undead. The Glottkin. Grey Seer Thanquol. And Boris Todbringer, the one-eyed lord of Middenland, home of the Great Temple of Ulric.
Nagash is the obvious headliner. If you know Warhammer lore, you know what that means. If you don't, just understand he's basically the god of death for the undead factions. Thanquol is the pick for Skaven players who've been waiting. The Glottkin rounds out the Chaos side. Boris is the wildcard, a human lord in a DLC otherwise dominated by entities that could end the world. Interesting choice for the final roster.
You can buy them individually or as a bundle. So if you only want Thanquol, you don't have to pay for the whole package.
The Actually Interesting Part
Here's the thing that caught my attention. Buying any piece of this DLC, even a single lord pack, gets you access to the Immortal Empires campaign mode. Even if you don't own any of the three Total War: Warhammer games. Creative Assembly is calling this a series first.
That's a significant shift. Immortal Empires is the massive combined campaign that pulls together content from all three games. It's basically the reason to play at this point. Previously you needed to own the relevant titles to access it. If this holds up the way it sounds, a new player could buy a single lord for whatever it costs and walk straight into the biggest campaign in the series.
This could mean CA is trying to lower the barrier for lapsed or new players before the series moves on. One possibility is they want Immortal Empires to have a healthier player count heading into whatever comes next. Either way, it's worth paying attention to if you've been sitting on the fence about getting into Warhammer 3.
Free Stuff Coming With It
The September 24 update also brings free changes for everyone. Vampire Counts are getting a gameplay overhaul. Archaon is getting reworked. New end game scenarios are coming. And victory conditions are being reworked for every legendary lord in the game.
That last one is a bigger deal than it sounds. Victory conditions in Warhammer 3 have always been a bit of a mixed bag. Some lords have interesting win states, others are basically "conquer a lot of stuff." Reworking all of them suggests CA is putting real effort into this final content drop, not just shipping four lords and calling it done.
Worth It?
If you're already playing Warhammer 3, this is an easy yes depending on which factions you care about. Nagash for undead players, Thanquol for Skaven, Glottkin for Chaos, Boris for something completely different. The free update alone makes September 24 worth loading the game back up.
If you're not playing Warhammer 3 yet, the Immortal Empires access thing is genuinely interesting. I'd wait to see the full pricing before getting excited, but the concept of paying for one lord and getting the whole combined campaign is not a small offer.
